It was always on the cards, but it's safe to say that 2022 SOTY season has arrived with a vengeance. Obviously these days it's impossible to keep up with the flow of video content generally. But, when it gets close to Christmas, the big guns start blazing and 2022 SOTY season is no exception. First up (amongst the seemingly most likely 2022 SOTY candidates at least) is Baker's T Funk. With a brace of Thrasher magazine cover up his sleeves, including the superhuman ollie over the bench at China Banks - T Funk must be in the running. His 2022 SOTY flag is well and truly flying courtesy of his 'Deep Fried x Baker' 6 minute banger. Watch! Next up is the latest release from Yoga pants Olympian Nyjah Huston. Thankfully filmed by Ant Travis and minus the overwrought Ty Evans treatment of the earlier 'Shine On' part (see below) this is Nyjah at his best. Twelve minutes of unadulterated 'full send'. Massive rails, insane switch flip in game, death defying shit in lines and yes, the WORST gear in history. This is progressive, insane and absolutely worthy of 2022 SOTY season but will Thrasher ever allow Nyjah to win? I guess we're about to find out. Thirdly, and absolutely not least comes New York City's own Tyshawn Jones. With one SOTY under his belt and a new company to promote - TJ is GOING IN. First in his continuing 2022 SOTY run is the much-anticipated new Supreme video 'Play Dead'. Crazy (but expected) Strobeck filming arguments aside, this is a worthy follow up to Cherry and Blessed. And even better - this one's on YouTube officially. The whole video is dope - but pay attention to Tyshawn's end part. Lines on flat (and rough arse flat at that) over full sized bins like it's fuck all. That Thrasher cover subway kickflip and much, much more. Fucking bonkers. Never one to rest on his laurels, TJ followed up Thursday's Supreme release with another insane video part. TJ left FA recently to set up King Skateboards and this 'Kingdom Come' part functions as a formal announcement of that and another 2022 SOTY pitch. Fucking ridiculous. Dude is the most powerful skateboarder to ever live.
