Is there another skate brand that's stayed as true to its roots as Baker has? Antihero is probably the only other imprint that has never changed, has always been progressive and has absorbed every trend and zeitgeist switch up of the last three decades without compromising anything. Baker is in rare company there to be honest. How many other OG brands can you say are still as relevant now as they were in their salad days? Not many... As such, the release this week of Baker has a Deathwish Part 2 (their 7th or 8th proper full-length depending on how you count) further cements the Baker family's 25 year strong place as one of capital S skateboarding's most influential and adaptive companies. This is a full-length in the OG sense: 67 minutes of hammers, legends, hi-jinx and absolutely sterling music that'll please everyone from the mums to the teenage hammer addicts.
I'm old and lazy these days but watching the likes of Andrew Reynolds and Elissa Steamer produce high level skateboarding well into their late 40s is both inspiring and astonishing. Maybe there is something to be said for sobriety after all. There's way too much in this one to even talk about if I'm honest but know this: Antwuan Dixon has a guest trick in Andrew Reynold's full section, Elissa Steamer drops an absolute belter of a full part further ensconcing her into hall of fame territory and our very own Casper Brooker probably has the best part.
It's 100% a Baker video with everything that statement suggests. Go watch it now and be happy that skateboarding culture will endure forever, regardless of peripheral wackness. Baker Baker!
