Lenz III, Chandler Burton for There and Thrasher Am Scramble

Welcome to February. It's still grim. The latest crop of noteworthy clips (in our eyes) include Thrasher Am Scramble, a piece from Lens III and rising head Chandler Burton. Other videos are of course available but these are our pick. Up first, the latest edition of the firmly established Thrasher Am Scramble. I guess this fills the void after they ditched (permanently?) King of the Road after hawking it to Vice. The format for Thrasher Am Scramble is not far removed from KOTR. Rather than having established pro skaters drinking beer out of their arses or snogging women, Thrasher Am Scramble paints a more wholesome picture of the 'Hellride'. Rather than teams per se, with Thrasher Am Scramble, you get a selected crew of the hottest amateurs. The target city is Boston, so there's a great mix of famous and not so famous spots and the crew is eclectic. Encompassing everyone from Brazilian women (Vitoria Mendon?a), to Aussie ATVs, to Canadian wildmen: this is most definitely 'new Thrasher'. Stand outs for us were Huf head and Antihero's latest addition Nick Matthews, who looks like a cross between Abe Lincoln and a cat, and the mighty Patrick Praman who we posted about recently re his insane section in Real Skateboards Three Seasons. The video is low on the cringe Hellride shit and high on the 'making skateboarders not look like tossers' vibe, which is what everyone wants, right? Get your goggles focused towards Thrasher Am Scramble ASAP. Lenz III, Chandler Burton for There and Thrasher Am Scramble Next up, Ayahiro Uratsuka's section from the long awaited third instalment from Japan's Lenz crew called, unsurprisingly, 'Lenz III'. If you know anything about Japanese skate culture then you'll have already heard of the Lenz series and or Tightbooth productions. If this is all new to you, prepare your heads for a treat. Japanese skateboarding is on its own trajectory and that includes everything from the tricks themselves right through to filming, editing, outfits and general approach to spots. There's tons of superfluous talk about skateboarding being 'unique' or 'self-determining': in Japan this isn't bullshit. Watch the section below first - then educate yourselves via the Tightbooth YouTube channel. Finally, There Skateboard's hulking cross dressing Harry Bastard-a-like has just dropped another full-lengther and it is sick. Chandler Burton is praiseworthy for a number of reasons but, as always, his skateboarding talks the loudest. Crazy pop, forward flip/murder flip manual bangers at Pier 7 and serious hubba and rail destruction. 'Chandler were there' as we say in Manchester.
