No let up in the shoe-enabled video bangers as we sidle into December. Two absolute belters here with what must be the best female street part ever filmed (so far). Momiji Nishiya (for those who don't know) is a Japanese skater who won the inaugural gold medal in street at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 at the ripe old age of 13. Like many of her contemporaries, despite people being stoked on her skills and consistency in competition settings, Momiji was roundly dismissed by some for never having filmed a 'real' street part. Well, fast forward a few years and with Real skateboards and adidas Skateboarding backing her, Japan's silky smooth operator just shut up hella critics. This is as proper as it gets, tech lines, beautiful flatland, handrail bangers and brilliant style. The future is here people. Hands down one of the most significant video parts of the last decade. Bravo!
Next up is something completely different in all respects other than the fact that it's skateboarding. Where Momiji's part is all nimble footed moves set to jaunty J-Pop, Elijah Berle's latest Vans clip poetically entitled 'Berle for VANS' takes a different approach. For a man known to happily change steeze and clothing on a whim it comes as little surprise to see Berle running AVE intensity freak outs set to Metallica. I mean the skating is literally death-defying but it did kind of leave me wondering, 'is this actually making kids want to go out and do this kind of shit?' Who knows. Not me. Anyhow - Berle just absolutely threw his hat into the SOTY ring with this one. The last SF rail trick is certifiable. Go iron your black vests and watch.
