More UK crust - Mashlife 'Wildflower' In Search of the Unskateable

More absolute bangers from the UK's homegrown scene this month in the form of the truly epic 'Wildflower' from Nathan Page and the (originally at least) Huddersfield-based Mash Life crew. It's possible that you're already au fait with Mash Life's output and maybe saw 'Foothills' their Covid-era release or some of their earlier releases for the sadly missed Huddersfield-based SOS Endemic. If not, never fear as we are here to fill in the gaps for you. In some respects, Mash Life's output is similar to other sterling contemporary scene videos like Brighton-based 'Headz': they're not selling you anything, they do not profit from their videos in any way and, most importantly, they do what they do because it needs to be done. As Mash Life commander Nathan Page explains in his Skateboarder's Companion interview, which you can read here - Mash Life began as your common or garden UK scene representing itself. You can see that pre-history on their YouTube channel here but, as Nathan explains in the extensive interview linked above, Covid saw Mash Life's MO take a turn towards the neglected Victorian infrastructure dotted across the hills and moors of Calderdale, West Yorkshire and Lancs. I'd say that Nathan probably has the most extensive spot map of barely accessible/skateable concrete spillways, fullpipes, ditches and the like in the whole country. Think Salba pool hunting but with rotting Victorian brick banks as the prey and you'll be close. Of course, the entirety of Wildflower isn't made up only of these kind of obscure spots - there are plenty of standard spots getting ripped too, along with a cast of characters encompassing everyone from the venerable Felix Owusu Kwarteng through to Mash Life nutter-in-chief Josh Whitehead and everybody else in between. This crew epitomises inclusivity without any of the mealy-mouthed self aggrandising toss of some. Don't take my word for it - go watch NOW. As an extra insight into these lovely people, give the Skateboard GB mini doc on their antics a watch too for behind-the-scenes spot hunting like you've never seen before.

Now go buy some big ass soft wheels and drop into a reservoir.
