Natas Kaupas Memory Screen

Natas Kaupas Memory Screen

We're very pleased to report that Santa Monica's version of Mark Gonzales and very probably the most underrated skateboarder of all-time has received the Memory Screen treatment after long last. Along with Gonz, Natas Kaupas invented modern skateboarding seemingly out of thin air but, more importantly, he did so with one of the best styles ever seen. Fittingly, this 33rd Memory Screen release (paging Bobby Puleo) functions as a mash up of some of the best of Natas Kaupas' footage from the 80s, along with a smattering of clips from his time on Element and as creative director of the way-ahead-of-the-curve Vita shoes. Some of this footage won't be new to you - if you haven't seen the hydrant spin by now then you must be living under a rock - but there are more obscure clips from hard-to-find 80s films such as Mack Dawg's 'Sick Boys' 1988 and/or Tony Robert's 'Going Off' which came out 12 months later in 1989. Often times it's difficult to explain the significance and face-melting qualities of ground breaking 80s skating to the youth of today, but I defy anyone to watch Natas at his peak and deny the truly insane levels that he was skating at whilst 90% of pro skating was struggling to adapt to the flatland ollie. You'll love this - take it from us.

If you're thirsty for more Natas (and you should be) click on the hyperlink above to read his Chrome Ball Incident interview and then watch his brilliant On Video segment below. Captain, there are doubts...
