June 6th mate, June bloody 6th and it's panning it down...again. God help us. Anyhow, here's some new culturally deep content to keep your weather rage at bay for a while. First up is the very welcome return of the greatest video series in skateboard culture, namely Ted Barrow's This Old Ledge series. If for some reason you're not already on this one, get on YouTube as soon as you've watched the newest one and wise yourselves up. In contrast to previous episodes which have focused on one particular spot and explored both the architectural and skate-related history of the space, this Philadelphia episode is more focused on the whole city and in particular the three plazas that have permanently enshrined Philly's place in skate lore. Ted takes you on a tour of Love Park, City Hall and Muni - the three spots brought to prominence by the skating of people like Ricky Oyola, Stevie Williams, Matt Reason, Fred Gall and many others in Dan Wolfe's seminal Eastern Exposure series (scroll down to watch EE3 in full). With all three original plaza spaces long gone but with a newly built skate-friendly plaza space at Muni, Ted recounts the circular nature of Philadelphia's adversarial relationship with its globally famous skate scene from the late 80s to present day. Truly fascinating stuff. Watch and learn.
Next up is the latest in The Skateboarder's Companion 'Five to One' series - previously episodes have featured Philadelphia native Jahmir Brown, and our very own Harry Lintell
This time it's the turn of Brighton ripper and super active film maker and scene catalyst Harrison Woolgar (we've posted about his amazing Headz video before - see below to remind yourselves). Harrison takes the camera on a tour of local Sussex crust, climbs into abandoned buildings in search of skateable rooftops and gives an insight into his life in general. A lovely guy and a brilliant series - go watch!
