Tiago, Suciu or Milton: Who's your 2019 Thrasher Mag SOTY?   Tiago, Suciu or Milton: Who's your 2019 Thrasher Mag SOTY? It's undeniable that in the world of skateboarding there is no higher accolade than the much coveted Thrasher Magazine SOTY trophy. Imbued with the literal blood of the much missed dude-with-the-glasses himself, since 1990 Thrasher have flexed their benign dictatorship and awarded one skateboarder above all others the title of SOTY in accordance with a recognition of their contributions to skateboarding during the 12 preceding months. Neither Jake Phelps nor Thrasher Magazine itself have ever made any secret of the fact that this is their award and that ultimately the winner is decided by them, regardless of what everyone else thinks. Equally, they've also always made it abundantly clear that one aspect of being in the running for SOTY is what each winner has done 'for the mag'. Put another way, you could be hippy jumping over moving cars but if you're not doing it for Thrasher then you've got no chance. With the above in mind, hopefully you'll forgive us for picking the three most worthy candidates from this year's slightly confusing SOTY pick just to narrow the field down for you. I mean, democracy is all well and good in principle but there's nothing like a focused choice...         First up, we have the man with hand grenades in his skate shoes (New Balance Numeric skate shoes as of last month to be precise) the one and only Tiago Lemos. Initially dropped as a stand-alone single part on Thrasher for 24 hours, and then re-released as the curtains of Primitive Skateboarding's full-length Encore piece a few days later - Tiago brings the heat as always with 5 minutes of straight up skateboarding annihilation. You know a part is good when it follows a switch backside heelflip down Wallenberg and still manages to blow everything out of the water. Put simply, this dude has the most explosive and mind bending POP in the history of skateboarding. If you dig ledges, switch front feebles to switch heel out down handrails and the most legit switch mongo ever seen, then you need to vote for Tiago. Extra points for all the nerds too by including a trick at the legendary Sadlands spot. Up next is the twinkle-toed, high brow ledge poetry of Mr Mark Suciu - we've waxed lyrical about his Verso section previously so if you want more comment - check out this blog post. If you're more of a white wine and French poetry kind of skater then Mark's probably your guy. Here's a reminder...         Last, but by no means least, if you prefer your skateboarding to err on the side of outright insanity and near-death-experiences then you have absolutely no option but to cast your vote for Creature Skateboards' own Argentine maniac Milton Martinez. If his "¡DEMOLICIÓN!"section doesn't scare the shit out of you, then you need to lay off the Xanax. Pure, unbridled, skate and destroy ethos in human form. An entire video section of enders without a hint of hyperbole. Fucking nutter!         Tiago, Suciu or Milton: Who's your 2019 Thrasher Mag SOTY?
