Vans Shop Riot 2022 LS Ten Leeds
Early August saw the welcome return of one of the UK's best events. Vans Shop Riot 2022 took place at LS Ten, (formerly the Works) in Leeds on both the indoor and newly finished outdoor sections. We've always been heavily involved with this one, with The Black Sheep winning more of these than any other shop in the country. With the last Vans Shop Riot event taking place in Manchester back in 2019 and us being closely knocked off the top spot by Flatspot, the Black Sheep family were as keen as ever to get back in the canoe and go in for Vans Shop Riot 2022. Our three man wrecking crew consisted of Vans Shop Riot veterans and previous winners Eddie Belvedere and Jiri Bulin, along with newer face Leo Turner. With 20 shop teams in Leeds for the weekend, the sessions were heavy from the get go: both on boards and in the pub. The weekend started out with an en masse jam at Leeds' venerable Hyde Park with bespoke obstacles from Baglady Supplies (kicker to box) and The National Skate Co (replica Leeds Uni wavey bench). Hyde's always a good time, even more so when there are skaters from all over the UK there drinking free Northern Monk. You'll be able to see the fruits of that one in the first half of the Josh Hallett (the same guy who made the recent 'Welcome 2: Hell' video) up above. Go peep Vague Skate Mag's article by Jono Coote for the full overview of the Saturday. Sunday came around quickly and the sun was blazing. With judges Dan Cates, Ben Powell and Danny Wainwright on deck alongside Master of Ceremonies Marc 'TV's Marc Churchill' Churchill - things got heavy very quickly. Whilst LS Ten's indoor layout is much smaller than the old Works street course, for an intimate team contest like this, it worked perfectly. Heavy sessions on the rail, the back wall and the various hubbas/ledges ended up with ourselves pitted against R1 in the final. Ultimately we were pipped to the post by our old adversaries (featuring one-time Sheep rider Jordan Sharkey as their newest recruit) but all's fair in love and war. As the Vans Shop Riot contest-proper closed off, the huge crowd moved outside to see the newly finished (although not technically open) concrete DIY section of LS Ten get well and truly christened. You can read about the genesis of this crete behemoth in detail in the Vague article linked here and above but let's just say this for now: this isn't your average shoddy DIY build. All praise to the warriors on the trowels. The final results for Vans Shop Riot 2002 LS Ten Leeds were: 3rd Flatspot (2019's winners) 2nd The Black Sheep And 1st R1 Huge thanks to Amanda Perez, Manhead and everyone at Vans for serving up the goods once again.
