Vans Syndicate X Andy Kessler Sk8-Hi Reissue NYC "S"
Celebrating a decade of Vans Syndicate would not be complete without a tribute to a proper skateboard icon. This October Vans Syndicate have released the Sk8-Hi Reissue NYC "S" inspired by the east coast legend, Andy Kessler. Thought as one of the original pioneers of New York skateboarding in the 1970âs and 1980âs, Kessler was an integral part of graffiti and skate crew The Soul Artists of New York, considered by some as the New York version of the Z-Boyz crew from Dogtown in Santa Monica, California. Kessler went on to spearhead a number of skateboard initiatives within the city, including working with the Parks Department to build the first skatepark in Manhattan at 108th Street in Riverside park, earning him the nickname âGrandmaster of 108â . He went on to design and build parks throughout the five boroughs and beyond. Unfortunately Kessler past away in August 2009 after an allergic reaction to a bee sting but will always be remembered for his dedicated community work building public skateparks, inspiring locals and skateboarders from all walks of life.
Vans Syndicate presents the Andy Kessler Sk8-Hi Reissue NYC âSâ in the original premium leather and nubuck silhouette , with the bright blue shoelaces that Kessler used to personalize all of his Sk8-Hiâs with.
The Upper construction features outlast temperature management linings and perforated nubuck panels for maximum protection and ventilation. For that extra little bit of a personal touch, the custom heel scab is reference to old NYC subway tokens from Andyâs childhood.
The Sk8-Hi NYC "S" also features Vans Ultracrush HD footbeds, Vans original waffle gum sole and the signature Syndicate 10th anniversary artwork in gold on the footbeds.
